A one-act play written in the 1960’s by Off-Broadway writer Leonard Melfi, BIRDBATH is set in New York and features two characters: the awkward, intense and apparently damaged Velma Sparrow and Frankie Basta, a streetwise young man working as a cashier, whilst aspiring to poetry. This unlikely pair meet in a downtown cafe where Velma works as a waitress. Although from different worlds, Frankie eventually finds a muse in Velma and she, in turn, a saviour.
